| Synopsis | Tokimeki TonightAlthough born to a vampire father and werewolf mother、 Ranze Eto is very much a normal young girl. One day、 however、 her magical powers suddenly awaken、 enabling her to transform into anyone she bites.Ranze falls in love at first sight with Shun Makabe on her first day at Akebono Junior High School. The two are in the same class and sit next to each other、 and they gradually become close. However、 Ranze is told by her parents not to get into a relationship with humans because she is from the Kingdom of Spirits. Tokimeki Tonight is a romantic animation series with a comedic touch、 depicting Ranze devoting her love to Makabe while struggling with her roots. The series mainly consists of standalone episodes of slapstick、 romantic comedy—for example、 Aaron、 Prince of the Kingdom of Spirits、 falls in love at first sight with Ranze、 or some item from the Kingdom of Spirits causes trouble. Some episodes、 on the other hand、 have a more serious touch.Ranze often gets into a fight with Yoko Kamiya、 who is also in love with Makabe. However、 in a way、 the two are good rivals、 cooperating when they share a common objective. Yoko’s father Tamasaburo is fond of Makabe too and、 wanting to make Makabe his successor to the family business、 chases him around together with Yoko. The original romantic comic by Koi Ikeno first appeared in the monthly magazine Ribbon. Since the original version was published on a monthly basis、 the story could not be reproduced faithfully in weekly broadcasts. For this reason、 the TV series was created by incorporating new elements and modifying the original version. It is indicated in the comic version that Makabe’s purple birthmark may be the “Sign of the Prince.” However、 the final episode of the anime version ends by suggesting that Makabe may be the Prince of the Kingdom of Spirits. |
