| Synopsis | Harenchi Gakuen (Shameless School)Set in the Saint Harenchi School、 where shameless teachers gather、 this drama is based on a school-themed manga that follows the mischievous and ecchi Yasohachi Yamagishi and Mitsuko Yagyu、 nicknamed “Jubei、” who is a descendant of the Yagyu clan. Together、 they stir up various incidents within the school alongside such unimaginably scandalous teachers as Hige-Godzilla and Macaroni Kid. In the 1970s、 when even the term harassment was not heard at all、 this series depicted students engaging in various lewd acts that would be unthinkable today、 such as skirt-flipping that was a craze for children at the time、 attempting to peep into the girls' bath during school trips、 or Yasohachi’s sneaking into the girls' room for physical examinations to see them naked. The teachers would often join in such acts、 frequently resulting in massive public uproar. The original creator is Go Nagai、 renowned for Devilman and Mazinger Z. The series was a gag manga serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 1968 to 1972. However、 even at that time、 it faced a barrage of severe criticism from such groups as the PTA for its sexual depictions and its portrayal of problematic teachers. Nevertheless、 it remained popular among children、 which led to a live-action TV series broadcast on Tokyo 12 Channel (now TV Tokyo) starting in October 1970、 as well as three films produced by Dainichi Eiga the same year. In the TV and film adaptations、 Midori Kojima、 who played the heroine Jubei、 took the lead role and rose to fame. Although it was later adapted into an OVA (Original Video Animation)、 it was rated for adults only.In 2018、 the All Works of Go Nagai won the Minister of Education、 Culture、 Sports、 Science and Technology Award at the 47th Japan Cartoonists Association Award. |
