Synopsis | Uchujin Pipi Pipi is a little yellow alien from a planet with advanced technology. He gets on a flying saucer and flies to Japan by chance. Toshihiko and Ryoko、 two siblings living in downtown Tokyo、 come across Pipi. They become friends、 and Pipi comes to live in their apartment. Pipi demonstrates his planet’s advanced technology、 bringing the children to his flying saucer with teleportation-like powers、 fast-forwarding and reversing time、 and making himself invisible. He also sometimes causes mischief. The children are amazed by Pipi’s powers、 and they have a fun time together. Although Pipi’s advanced technology gets them into trouble、 Pipi makes things right in the end. Having enjoyed an exciting time with Toshihiko and Ryoko、 Pipi finally says farewell to the siblings and returns to his home planet.Uchujin Pipi is a science fiction TV animation series jointly produced by Sakyo Komatsu、 a novelist who triggered a social phenomenon with Japan Sinks (Kobunsha)、 and Kazumasa Hirai、 a prolific manga artist known for works such as 8 Man and the Genma Wars series. It aired on NHK from April 8、 1965 to March 31、 1966. Komatsu mainly created the framework、 while Hirai developed the plot based on it. The animated Pipi is combined with a photograph of a flying disc. This is considered the first example in Japan where animation was integrated with live-action footage. The series was later adapted into a manga by Shotaro Ishinomori、 who created the Kamen Rider Series. The manga was serialized by Kodansha in Tanoshii Yochien from the July issue of 1965 to the March issue of 1966. Meiko Nakamura、 in her early career、 did the voice of the alien Pipi. |
