SynopsisMighty Jack Mighty Jack was produced by Tsuburaya Productions、 which had earned immense popularity for Ultraman and Ultra Seven. It was a bold project for its time、 aiming to create a tokusatsu sci-fi series that adults could enjoy as well. The story does not feature monsters、 but rather revolves around Mighty Jack (MJ)、 a team formed by the International Foundation. Committed to the “protection of earth、” “construction、” and “international aid、” MJ members get into the Mighty-go、 a multi-purpose battleship、 to defend people from the threat of the mysterious “Q” organization. The series was a mechanic tokusatsu series inspired by Thunderbird、 which was a popular show in the United States. It was highly rated for its delicate models、 such as the Mighty-go、 set、 and scaling、 considered by some to be one of Tsuburaya Productions’ finest masterpieces.Starring Nikkatsu superstar Hideaki Nitani、 the series was produced by Tsuburaya Productions and Fuji TV and ran for 13 episodes from April 1968. Despite the huge production costs and Tsuburaya Productions’ unwavering passion for the series、 its popularity was somewhat limited among both adults and children. This may have been because it was ahead of its time、 with the absence of aliens and monsters. The sequel’s title was changed to Fight! Mighty Jack、 along with a shift to a 30-minute format for children、 and it ran for 26 episodes from July 1968. The screenwriters included Keisuke Fujikawa、 known for works such as Galaxy Express 999、 Tetsuo Kinjo、 who later returned to Okinawa、 and Shinichi Ichikawa. Synthesizer master Isao Tomita created the music. Hideaki Anno、 who later directed Neon Genesis Evangelion、 has declared himself a devoted fan of Mighty Jack.
