Chen learns martial arts from his father Ohito 、 a master who teaches a martial art known as Seitenken in the Hong Kong suburbs. However、 Chen’s parents are murdered by the Scorpion Gang、 which is after the secrets of Seitenken、 and his elder sister Shuho is abducted too. Chen trains under his uncle、 Tendo、 and destroys the Scorpion Gang. This concludes the first season of Kung Fu Chen. The story from Episode 11 onwards revolves around Chen’s struggles with a new rival、 Kenji Kano、 and the anti-social forces associated with him. The series was initially produced by Yomiuri TV and Toho、 but Nippon Television joined from Episode 11. Maken! Kung Fu Chen aired from January to March 1983. The sequel、 titled Gekito! Kung Fu Chen、 ran from April to September 1983. The series comprises 20 episodes in total. Junya Takagi played the leading role in both seasons. He was the first action star from the Japan Action Club (JAC)、 which was formed by Shinichi Chiba. Hollywood star Hiroyuki Sanada was a fellow actor of Junya Takagi、 making his debut around the same time. Hiroko Saito、 who played a child in the series、 later played Goggle Pink in Dai Sentai Goggle-V、 an installment of the Super Sentai series. The screenplay was written by Takayuki Kase、 who later did the scripts for The Guardman and Key Hunter .
