SynopsisHai Akko DesuThough a bit clumsy、 Atsuko Sakamoto (maiden name: Osato)、 aka Akko、 is a charming and positive woman. She succeeds in winning the heart of the handsome and smart Junichi Sakamoto、 her high school crush、 and starts married life with her new husband. The house of the Sakamoto family that Akko marries into is rather different from that of her own. Raised by a vivacious mother、 Akko is friendly and gets on with anyone. In contrast、 Junichi’s mother Setsuko is a difficult-to-please lady embodying Japanese beauty who likes to compose haiku poems. Although Akko finds it difficult living with her mother-in-law、 the two gradually come to terms with each other and develop a bond. Before long、 Akko and Junichi have two children、 a boy named Taro and a girl named Hanako. Akko does her best in her busy everyday life、 as both a mother and a daughter-in-law of the family.Even after becoming parents、 Akko and Junichi are still lovebirds just like they have been since their student days. They and the children、 as well as Setsuko who watches over the family with warm eyes、 live a noisy but happy and casual life together.A total of 163 episodes of Hai Akko Desu were broadcast between 1988 and 1989. It was an animated version of a family-housewife comic by Chikako Mitsuhashi、 author of the popular comic Chisana Koi no Monogatari. Its family-drama style centered around the perspective of a housewife gained popularity. The series also garnered attention for its ground-breaking attempt to develop many stories based on actual viewer experiences.
