| Synopsis | Shin Ningen Kousaten、 New Human Crossing Like Kosaku Shima and Like Shooting Stars in the Twilight、 the graphic novel Shin Ningen Kosaten (Human Crossing) depicts the lives and romances of men over middle age. The difference is that this story、 written by Masao Yajima and drawn by Kenshi Hirokane 、 is more profound with the element of death being added. The manga was serialized as a collection of short stories in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Original from 1980 to 1990 and was collected in 27 volumes of comic books. The scenario of this work was reconstructed by the original author Masao Yajima for the NHK General’s Saturday Drama slot in 2006 by interweaving the manga Ningen Kosaten: Umibe no Nami and Tooi Unari with the novelist Ryuichiro Uchiumi’s work Tsubasa aru Fune wa. Consisting of three episodes for the TV drama series、 it depicts a story of the protagonist、 an elderly man named Yuji Terashima 、 who used to be a newspaper reporter and now makes a living as a farmer in Shimane prefecture、 and his sister’s granddaughter Marie、 who feels stuck in her job as a newspaper reporter. It is a drama series for adults in which Yuji himself decides to face his own past、 which he had tried to bury、 through the process of researching old articles together with Marie. Tatsuya Nakadai plays the protagonist、 Yuji Terashima、 and the granddaughter、 Marie、 is played by Eriko Sato. Guest stars in each episode include prominent actors with a long career、 such as Makiya Yamaguchi、 Shozo Uesugi、 Harue Akagi、 and Gaku Yamamoto. Perhaps because it has more depth to the story than the original Ningen Kosaten、 with the characters reminiscing the past and anecdotes during World War II being depicted、 it did not make a big splash with the younger generations、 who seemed to have a hard time embracing it. Nevertheless、 in 2022、 it was re-released on NHK BS4K. |
