| Synopsis | Ultra Q: Dark Fantasy Goichi Sakamoto (played by Yoshihiko Hakamada) is a journalist for the general magazine MIND. Although Goichi is an eccentric and irresponsible character、 the chief editor respects him for his moments of brilliance. In addition、 back in his college days Goichi studied under Kakunoshin Watarai、 a professor at Teito University and an inventor well versed in all fields. One day、 Goichi meets his teacher、 Professor Watarai、 again. A long with Ryo Kusunoki (played by Kumiko Endo)、 a freelance photographer who is an acquaintance of the professor、 Goichi gradually gets caught up in paranormal incidents involving numerous supernatural phenomena that the professor is investigating. They encounter extraterrestrials、 mysterious creatures、 and other beings beyond human comprehension、 entering a world of the unknown.Ultra Q: Dark Fantasy was produced by Tsuburaya Productions、 known for Ultraman and other series、 and aired on the TV Tokyo network from April to September 2004. It is a remake of Ultra Q、 a tokusatsu series that was broadcast in 1966.Similarly to the previous series、 Ultra Q: Dark Fantasy adopts an omnibus format、 revolving around standalone episodes centered mainly on mystery themes. In contrast with the previous series、 Ultra Q: Dark Fantasy shifts the focus from monsters and instead features more aliens and phantoms. The episodes blend a supernatural thriller style with a strong element of sci-fi horror. Some parts of the story are a continuation of the previous series.The series composition was developed by Shozo Uehara、 who did the screenplay for many Ultra Series shows at Tsuburaya Productions.The series garnered attention for its casting of Masao Kusakari as Professor Watarai. |
