SynopsisSukai Garuzu、 Sky GirlsTechnology has advanced、 with unmanned fighter aircraft and other weapons now capable of being operated remotely. Then、 suddenly、 mysterious mechanical cell clusters known as WORM (Weapons Of Raid Machines ) attack the earth and wipe out two-thirds of the world’s population. The multinational united army of humanity is formed in order to fight back against the WORM and save humanity. The army succeeds in eliminating all the WORM、 but this was achieved through using weapons of mass destruction across the entire world. This causes the destruction of the earth’s landscape (e.g.、 severing of continents、 loss of Antarctica)、 which further leads to rising sea levels、 climate change、 and other abnormal phenomena. This impacts Japan too: Tokyo is submerged and the Chugoku and Kansai regions are completely severed from each other、 making life difficult for the people.Undeterred、 humanity spends a decade reconstructing society; but one day、 the WORM re-appear. A team is formed in response to this threat、 whose members are equipped with a new weapon: Sonic Divers、 which are exoskeletons that can fly. Three members of the Sonic Diver Unit、 Otoha Sakurano、 Karen Sonomiya、 and Eika Ichijo、 are tasked with tough missions to eliminate the WORM to save humanity’s future. Though they sometimes disagree on matters、 the three work together and develop a deeper bond.Sky Girls is an animation that was aired from 2007 (26 episodes in total). It was created following the popularity of the initial OVA version produced by Konami Entertainment that was released in 2006. The characters were designed by Fumikane Shimada、 who is also known for Strike Witches and Girls und Panzer. Sky Girls was later adapted into a novel and comic.
