SynopsisGakidekaKomawari-kun is Japan’s first ever self-appointed boy cop. His head makes up half of his height、 and he has a round face swelling toward the bottom. He doesn’t behave much like a child、 constantly teasing and harassing women in a sexual way.Komawari-kun’s crazy behavior is not that of a cop、 and he always causes trouble to his classmates and teachers at Sakamuke Elementary school as well as others in the neighborhood.Komawari-kun is depicted in manga style. Gakideka is a slapstick comedy anime series revolving around the chaotic incidents and wild everyday life of Komawari-kun、 who uses his special ability to transform into animals and even insects、 his ability to talk with animals、 and、 at times、 his authority as a cop. The series was unusual at the time in that the characters are depicted in gekiga (more realistic) style. Its powerful gag elements and vulgar expressions brought laughter to viewers.Komawari-kun’s nonsensical one-liners and poses、 such as “Hachijo-jima no kyon [muntjac of Hachijo-jima]” and “Afurikazo daisuki [I love African elephants]、” were incorporated into the anime series within the limits of manga expression、 but as his funny character greatly deviated from the moral values of adults and society in the 1980s、 the anime series failed to fully reproduce the hilariousness of the original manga. Even so、 the anime series challenged the limits of the broadcasting code with its provocative staging. The series is based on a gag manga series by Tatsuhiko Yamagami that was serialized in Shonen Champion from 1974 to 1980. The vulgar behavior and one-liners were popular among children at the time and generated a social phenomenon.
