SynopsisMeiken Rasshi、 LassieSet in England in the mid-1930s、 John is a gentle boy who lives in the coal mine town Greenall Bridge in Yorkshire. One day、 he comes across a rough collie puppy that is lost and decides to look after it. John feels lonely because both his parents work、 so he names the dog Lassie and looks after her with care.Thanks to Lassie、 John befriends Priscilla、 the granddaughter of the coal mine’s owner、 the Duke of Rudling; Lassie begins a new life as a dear friend to all those around her.However、 as the output decreases at the coal mine、 mining operations are suspended. John goes to the Duke of Rudling to persuade him to rethink his decision to close the mine、 but the duke is displeased and takes Lassie away from John.The caged Lassie waits for John to come and get her. But John shows no signs of coming、 which makes Lassie very sad.Feeling pity for Lassie、 Priscilla disobeys her father’s orders and lets Lassie out of the cage. After being freed、 Lassie goes on a long journey to return to John.Based on American writer Eric Knight’s novel Lassie Come-Home、 Lassie was created by Nippon Animation as the 22nd installment of the World Masterpiece Theater. It aired on the Fuji TV network in 1996.In addition to the anime version、 the novel has been adapted into numerous live-action films and television series outside Japan.Lassie has enjoyed wide popularity for many years、 making her one of the most popular famous dogs in the world.
