SynopsisHimitsu no Akko-chan、 The Secrets of Akko-chanAtsuko Kagami is a fifth grader in elementary school. She accidentally breaks her favorite mirror、 and buries it in the garden under a gravestone. That evening、 a mirror fairy appears and gives Atsuko a magic compact to thank her for having taken good care of the mirror. By chanting the magic words “Tekumaku Mayakon、 Tekumaku Mayakon” at the magic compact、 Atsuko is able to transform into anything she wishes. However、 as she cannot transform when others are looking、 she has to hide herself or distract them before transforming. The series is a magical shojo animation with a touch of comedy、 in which Atsuko transforms into people in various occupations or who are necessary to solve the case in order to save her friends and punish the bad guys. She finds transforming hard in the beginning、 making the mistake of accidently talking like an elementary school student while transformed into an adult、 for example. However、 she eventually gets the hang of it、 and develops the skills to make tactful decisions and successfully solve problems. In the end、 she saves her father、 captain of the Nipponmaru ship、 from getting shipwrecked by gathering the light from all the mirrors in the world to her compact and using it as a beacon. This is when she parts with her magic compact.Three animation remakes have been created、 each version having a different ending. The magic words “Tekumaku Mayakon、 Tekumaku Mayakon” were popular among young girls from several generations. The series has recently been made into a live-action movie. The original Himitsu no Akko-chan was a shojo manga by Fujio Akatsuka、 renowned for his Osomatsu-kun and Tensai Bakabon.
