| Synopsis | Samurai Jaiantsu、 Samurai GiantsThe story begins in 1973、 when Tetsuharu Kawakami、 manager of the Yomiuri Giants 、 recruits the protagonist Ban Banba as a pitcher、 the ninth batter and cleanup hitter. Born in Kochi、 Ban is a cheerful and dynamic man. His teammates are shocked by his unconventional behavior and free-spirited attitude. Although the other members avoid Ban at first、 they gradually recognize his love for the Giants hidden behind his samurai-like heroic character and start to accept him. Ban gains the nickname “Deadly Throw” for his tremendously fast and devastating hit-by-pitches that completely lack control. However、 he manages to overcome this problem with the help of Tarohei Hachiman、 a member of the Giants’ farm team who used to go to the same high school that Ban dropped out from. After that、 in a period where the Giants have been dominating the Japanese baseball scene for nine consecutive years、 Ban develops various killer curveballs and confronts his rival professional baseball teams. The original comic was developed based on the Yomiuri Giants’ success in 1970、 whereas the animation series focused on the Yomiuri Giants’ achievements in 1973、 i.e.、 the time of its broadcasting. Actual facts and events、 such as players’ names、 manager changes、 the Giants’ slump that continued to the summer season、 the retirement of Shigeo Nagashima halfway during the season、 the clash with the Hanshin Tigers in the final、 and the Japan Series showdown with the Nankai Hawks 、 were incorporated into the Samurai Giants worldview to create a unique semi-fictional story. In the final episode、 Ban uses the Miracle Ball、 which combined all the elements of the killer curveballs developed by him、 to defeat the world’s best hitter Roger Jacks、 an original character in the animation series、 and the story ends with Ban receiving his dream car as a reward for winning the MVP award. |
