SynopsisDokonjo Gaeru、 the Gutsy FrogThe trademark of Hiroshi、 a middle schooler and habitual latecomer、 is the sunglasses he wears perched on his head. While running to school、 on the verge of being late as usual、 he trips on a pebble in the park and falls on a frog、 Pyonkichi. However、 Pyonkichi through his innate mettle survives、 and then becomes able to speak、 and is reborn as a flat surface sticking on Hiroshi’s shirt. Hiroshi wonders why the frog has stuck on his shirt、 but cannot part with his favorite shirt、 so he returns home with Pyonkichi sticking to it. Then、 Hiroshi and Pyonkichi become one、 and are indispensable to each other、 and while they occasionally fight、 they also help each other. The story focuses on Hiroshi and Pyonkichi、 and portrays from a child’s point of view their everyday life with Hiroshi’s classmates、 including his girlfriend、 Kyoko Yoshizawa、 who his parents approve of、 and a school bully、 Gorira Imo、 who is his friend but with whom he often clashes. Much of the show is about the struggle between Hiroshi and Gorira Imo when they fight each、 along with the support of Pyonkichi、 and a romance with Kyoko supported by Pyonkichi. The story with its slapstick style of jokes about life in the Showa era、 was broadcast in a two episode omnibus. The work was also broadcast in a live-action dramatization on July 11、 2015. The story was set in the present day of 2015、 and portrayed the unfailing friendship between Hiroshi、 who had turned 30、 and Pyonkichi.
