SynopsisMister AjikkoYoichi Ajiyoshi、 a middle schooler、 follows in the footsteps of his late father、 a culinary prodigy、 and maintains the Hinode Eatery with his mother. Yoichi is also famous in the town as a culinary boy prodigy、 just like his father. One day、 Genjiro Murata、 the founder of Ajio Ryorikai、 and a leading figure in the Japanese culinary world、 appears at the Hinode Eatery and greatly praises the katsudon Yoichi made. Yoichi is invited by Genjiro to challenge various chefs in culinary battles、 and in time he becomes known as Mister Ajikko. Supported by Marui、 whom he met at a meat sauce battle、 and his mother、 Noriko、 Yoichi continues to produce new dishes while competing with rival chefs、 who block his way. While having culinary battles with many rivals、 he grows up to be a top chef by making up his mind to “cook wholehearted dishes with love” with the help of his mother and people around him、 although he sometimes nearly loses something important as a chef.By garnering great viewer support、 this work became a long-running program totaling 99 episodes、 far beyond the initial schedule. Accordingly、 a number of anime original characters appear in the program. Original elements are introduced in the anime version、 by often using parodies of anime、 Tokusatsu (special effects) dramas、 and historical plays、 in Yoichi’s lines. Extremely powerful reactions and performances are directed as if they were battle scenes. The program was rich in originality、 such as the scene where a beam is emitted from a character’s mouth after they eat a dish of food、 or other scenes like swimming in a tsunami、 blasting off into space、 and becoming gigantic and destroying a castle.
