Synopsis

Gakko no Kaidan―Haru no Noroi Special (School Ghost Stories Special - Spring Curse)In the first episode titled “Kyuofu Shinrigaku Nyumon (Introduction to Fear Psychology),” a university student named Sato participates in an experiment to see if suggestion enables a person to see ghosts at the requests of his professor, and through this experiment, he experiences terrifying encounters with the spirit of a woman. In the second episode titled “Asagi no Noroi (The Curse of Asagi),” high school students Aya and Mayu attempt to play a prank on a transfer student named Kyoko, but all the three become trapped in the basement of the old school building. The basement was the site of an incident where a mummified female student was discovered. And the mummy’s evil force begins to steal up to them. In the third episode titled “Drop,” Masaya, an elementary school student who plays baseball, attempts suicide after being bullied by his classmates. However, he encounters a man who tells Masaya about another elementary school student who previously carried out suicide at the very spot. As Masaya starts to play catch with the man, he eventually rethinks his way of life. In the fourth episode titled “Ozoke,” a junior school teacher named Shiori learns the sudden death of her senior colleague Hideko one night, but she goes to an amusement park with her friends instead of attending the funeral. Following the day, those friends of hers meet a mysterious death one by one, and Shiori herself begins to encounter eerie phenomena. This work was broadcasted in March 2000 as a special TV feature of the school horror drama series Gakko no Kaidan that had aired on the Kansai TV network from January to March 1994. It drew significant attention because of its renowned staff members, including Takashi Shimizu who was the director of the Ju-On (The Grudge) series, Hideo Nakata who was the director of the Ring series and others, and the scriptwriter Kundo Koyama who won the Screenplay of the Year for Okuribito (Departures) at the 32nd Japan Academy Film Awards.
