Synopsis

Black JackKuroo Hazama was born into a wealthy family and lived in comfort every day, but his life took a turn for the worse when an unexploded shell detonated. His mother was killed, his family collapsed, and the young boy himself suffered terrible injuries; part of his body was blown off to the point where everyone had given up hope regarding his survival. Then, a surgeon named Honma performed a major operation lasting dozens of hours and ultimately saved the boy's life. However, the boy was left with a bizarre appearance; his body was a patchwork of scars, and half of his hair had turned completely white. Despite this appearance, he admired Honma for saving him and underwent a hellish rehabilitation to become a brilliant surgeon himself. Years later, he was reborn as Black Jack, a genius surgeon who made the impossible possible while demanding extortionate fees. The original work is the manga titled Black Jack by Osamu Tezuka. It was serialized in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shonen Champion from the issue on November 19, 1973 to the issue on September 18, 1978, and continued its irregular serialization after the series, gaining popularity across generations.Following various adaptations into anime, live-action and other media, the series finally broadcast as a serialized TV anime on Yomiuri TV and the Nippon TV network starting October 11, 2004. Prior to the TV broadcast, an OVA series produced irregularly starting in 1993 earned high acclaim from Tezuka fans due to the powerful artistic style of anime masters Osamu Dezaki and Akio Sugino. In contrast, the TV series is full of various ingenious ideas to appeal to all tastes. In addition, the first opening theme song, Gekkouka by Janne Da Arc, debuted at number two on the Oricon charts.
