Synopsis

Kaze no Rondo (The Rondo of the Wind)Natsuo Noshiro bears a burn scar on her thigh, a wound from the fire that destroyed her childhood home, and a lasting symbol of her emotional trauma. Her mother, Maki, had fallen into a tragic extramarital affair with her uncle, Koji Noshiro, and ultimately died in that fire. In fact, Natsuo had witnessed the intimacies between the two. After losing her home, Natsuo, along with her father and younger brother, moved to the estate of the head family of Noshiro and began to live with her grandparents and cousins’ family. However, Natsuo exhausted her nerves due to her father who neglected the family and her aunt Asami that directed her hatred toward Natsuo instead of Maki, who had stolen Asami’s husband. On the other hand, Natsuo found herself drawn to Asami’s second son, Hideaki, each time she felt his kindness. Before long, the two began meeting secretly in a storage room. When Asami discovered their secret trysts, she flew into a rage and forcibly tore the two apart. Extremely shocked, Natsuo fled the head family of Noshiro with her brother. Even after becoming an adult, she did not return to the head family’s estate, however, reunion with Hideaki following her grandfather’s death brought back the emotions she had locked away since that time. This series aired on the Fuji TV network as a serialized TV drama during the daytime slot from April 3 to July 10, 1995. Classified as a so-called hirudora (daytime soap opera), it achieved the highest viewing rate of 10.4%. The scripts were written by Takehiro Nakajima, who is said to have established the so-called doronuma (a quagmire of love and hate) style in the daytime soap opera genre. The lead actress, Yoko Moriguchi, has appeared in numerous films and television dramas and continues to be a highly visible actress today, often playing mother roles. This drama is based on a girls’ manga titled Kaze no Rondo (The Rondo of the Wind) by Mutsumi Tzukumo, which was serialized in the magazine YOU published by Shueisha.
