Synopsis
Sazae-san’s TravelsBorn on January 30, 1920, in Saga Prefecture as the third daughter of the Hasegawa family, the manga artist Machiko Hasegawa, who had been good at drawing pictures since childhood and later became famous as the original creator of the national manga series Sazae-san, was an incomparable travel lover.She is well known for traveling to various locations, both domestic and overseas, together with her mother and older sister, between her busy manga writing activities. This story was produced as an anime and drama based on essays filled with the experiences she gained through her travels, as well as the strange and comical journeys of the Hasegawa family that is comparable to the characters in her own Sazae-san, many heartwarming family episodes full of laughter, and episodes during her long-term stays abroad for a respite from manga creation.This is an animated special program to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the creator, Machiko Hasegawa, based on her true story, broadcast on February 2, 2020, on the Fuji TV network as part of the Sazae-san special program along with three other segments: 嗚呼(Aa) ga Yomemasu ka (Can You Read '嗚呼(Aa)'?), Kasan no Wasuremono (Mother’s Forgotten Item), and Masuo-ryu Kenko-ho (The Masuo-Style Health Method). Notably, Sazae is not the protagonist, but the creator Machiko Hasegawa is depicted as the lead character.The original work is an essay manga that was serialized in the Asahi Shimbun from April to September 1987. Furthermore, in this work, the voice of Machiko Hasegawa is performed by Keiko Toda, who is active as both an actress and a voice actress. This marks her second appearance in the same role, following the special program Sazae-san Uchiake-banashi (The Sazae-san Confessions), which aired in December 2010 to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Sazae-san.
