Synopsis

Gyakuten Abare Hatchaku (Comeback Abare Hacchaku)Chotaro Sakurama, the fifth-generation Hatchaku, has moved from Ibaraki Prefecture to the old downtown district of Tokyo. He lives in a four-person household consisting of his father Choji who is a zookeeper, his mother Kazuko who runs a barbershop, his elder sister Kaoru, and him. On the day when transferring into Shibakame Elementary School, Chotaro immediately becomes a target for bullies. However, as his nickname Abare Hatchaku” suggests, he is unrivaled when it comes to fighting and mischief. Using his naturally rowdy spirit, he refuses to give in to any bully in Tokyo as well. Though Chotaro gets straight 1’s in all subjects except Physical Education, his flashes of inspiration are second to none. He also has a gentle side, doting on his beloved dog Donjiro as if he were a younger brother. While having a romantic notion of Akane, the most beautiful girl in the class, Hatchaku stirs up many commotions. This production is the fifth and final installment of the Abare Hatchaku TV drama series aired on the TV Asahi network from 1979 to 1985. This fifth series ran from March 2 to September 21, 1985. The fifth-generation Hatchaku was played by Kazuyoshi Sakai, who debuted as a child actor in this series and is now the leader of the popular vocal group Junretsu. Despite being late for his audition, he was selected for the lead role, beating out the other child actors who had been considered the leading candidates until then. After appearing in various tokusatsu (special effects) dramas and others, Sakai eventually formed Junretsu and was able to appear in the 69th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen. The series is based on the children’s literature series Abare Hatchaku by Hisashi Yamanaka.
