Though Chotaro gets straight 1’s in all subjects except Physical Education, his flashes of inspiration are second to none. He also has a gentle side, doting on his beloved dog Donjiro as if he were a younger brother. While having a romantic notion of Akane, the most beautiful girl in the class, Hatchaku stirs up many commotions.This production is the fifth and final installment of the Abare Hatchaku TV drama series aired on the TV Asahi network from 1979 to 1985. This fifth series ran from March 2 to September 21, 1985. The fifth-generation Hatchaku was played by Kazuyoshi Sakai, who debuted as a child actor in this series and is now the leader of the popular vocal group Junretsu. Despite being late for his audition, he was selected for the lead role, beating out the other child actors who had been considered the leading candidates until then.
