Synopsis

Dr. Koto Shinryojo 2004, Dr. Coto’s Clinic 2004Dr. Coto Shinryojo 2004 is a sequel to season one of the Dr. Coto TV series.A year has passed since Kensuke Goto left Shoei University Hospital in Tokyo due to a medical error and moved to the remote island Shikina-jima. Kensuke is intimate with the locals, who affectionately call him “Dr. Coto.” Kensuke falls in love with a nurse working at his clinic, Ayaka Hoshino, and the couple begin considering getting married. But Ayaka’s mother, Masayo, gets a brain hemorrhage. Although Kensuke performs an operation and manages to save her life, the right side of her body is permanently paralyzed. Shoichi blames himself for not noticing his wife’s condition, while Ayaka is not sure whether to send her mother to a hospital in Okinawa Island to alleviate Kensuke’s burden. The series depicts the decisions of a variety of other characters too, such as Takehiro Hara, a boy who was the clinic’s first patient and who dreams of becoming a doctor like Kensuke.Dr. Coto’s Clinic 2004 aired on Fuji TV on November 12 and 13, 2004 as a two-night TV special. Unlike the first season that revolves around Kensuke earning the trust of Shikina-jima’s locals, the sequel depicts the distress and troubles of those around Kensuke. Hidetaka Yoshioka played Kensuke as in season one. Also, Ko Shibasaki continued playing the role of Ayaka Hoshino. In addition, Shibasaki did the vocals for the soundtrack “Omoide dake dewa tsura sugiru,” while Miyuki Nakajima wrote the lyrics and music. The TV series is based on a manga by Takatoshi Yamada that was serialized in Shogakukan’s manga magazine Weekly Young Sunday from 2000 and in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Original from 2008.
