Maken! Kanfuchen (Magic Fist! Kung Fu Chen)Seiten-ken—the sacred fist technique was feared by various martial artists as a demonic fist. The young man Chen, who inherited the Seiten-ken, was training under his Chinese father, Daijin. However, a mysterious violent group that wielded power in the suburbs of Hong Kong called the Scorpion Gang was seeking to steal the secrets of the martial art. And Chen’s father, who is also his master, and his Japanese mother are murdered by the Scorpion Gang. Her sister Shuho is also kidnapped. Following the few clues left behind, Chen comes to Japan, his mother’s homeland. To prepare for the inevitable confrontation with the Scorpion Gang, he begins rigorous daily training at a martial arts gym run by his uncle Tendo, another martial artist Chen met in Japan, in order to polish his techniques and gain even more strength. Through various battles with mysterious assassins and powerful masters of various martial arts who wage an attack, Chen experiences further growth. Through those battles, Chen unlocks the secret hidden behind the Seiten-ken and masters the art. With the goal of bringing down the Scorpion Gang, Chen continues to fight against villains in order to avenge his parents and rescue his elder sister.This series was a tokusatsu (special effect) action drama jointly produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and Toho, broadcast on the Nippon TV network from January to March, 1983. The lead role was played by Junya Takagi, who was then a 17-year-old new star of the Japan Action Club. Following this series, he moved to Hollywood at age 19, where he reportedly had connections with stars like Jackie Chan. The program received high viewer ratings and popularity, a sequel titled Gekito! Kanfuchen (Fierce Fight! Kung Fu Chen) was also broadcast in the same time slot from April to September 1983.
