Synopsis

Manga Naruhodo Monogatari, Manga Stories of “Aha!” MomentsThis is the third season of the series beginning with Manga Hajimete Monogatari [Manga Stories of Beginnings]. It is counted as the third one because Manga Doushite Monogatari [Manga Stories of “Why?” Questions] came after Manga Hajimete Monogatari. All seasons were created the same way, combining live action, puppet tokusatsu, and animation. Atsumi Kurasawa served as the show’s host. She made her debut in Kinichi Hagimoto’s show Kinchan no Dokomade Yaruno!? playing Kanae, a member of the Hagimoto three sisters’ unit Warabe. The puppet was changed to a small pink dinosaur called Narutan. Furthermore, the series’ focus shifted to exploring things that children are familiar with in everyday life but do not usually think deeply about. For instance, episodes covered fun facts that are valid even today, such as “Where does the water go when you flush the toilet?” and “Was ramen developed in Japan?” Another change made in the series was the magic words used when switching to the animation section, which were, “Narunaru Tantan Heso no Goma.” Legendary voice actor Nachi Nozawa served as the narrator, providing children with all kinds of “aha!” moments in an easy-to-understand manner. In total, 102 episodes ran from April 1986 to March 1988. Manga Naruhodo Monogatari was created by TBS and DAX International, similarly to Manga Hajimete Monogatari. A new season, Shin Manga Hajimete Monogatari, ran in 40 episodes starting in April 1988, making it a long-running series for TBS. Finally, a 60-minute TV special titled Manga Hajimete/Naruhodo 10 Shunen Supesharu [10th Anniversary Special] aired in January 1989, featuring all past hosts of the show.
