Tsurikichi Sanpei, Fisherman SanpeiSanpei Mihira is a cheerful, simple 11-year-old boy who loves fishing. He fanatical love for fishing has earned him the nickname “Tsurikichi,” or fishing enthusiast.Sanpei lives in a nature rich part of Akita with his grandfather Ippei Mihira who makes Japanese fishing rods and is also a master fisherman.Due to the influence of Ippei, Sanpei goes out to various places and exhibits the fishing techniques inherited from his grandfather. Sanpei grows with a passion for fishing, whether it be ocean, river, or lake.One day, Sanpei comes across a fish known as the Sazen Char in the Narigami Deeps that is located in Yonaki Valley. The unprecedentedly gigantic fish is known as the “Monster of Yonaki” because it gangs up to attack even raccoons. Sanpei tries to catch this char and is successful.Starting with this catch, Sanpei demonstrates his talent for fishing. He gets to know numerous anglers who are revered as masters, as well as winning in fishing competitions. He visits various places, driven by his growing passion for fishing.Created by Nippon Animation, Fisherman Sanpei is a television anime series that aired from 1980 to 1982 on the Fuji TV network.It is based on a manga by Takao Yaguchi that achieved long-term serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Later, from 2001 to 2010, a new series was serialized and garnered popularity. Even in the new series, Sanpei appears as a boy just as in the old series.Takao Yaguchi sadly passed away in November 2020.
