Synopsis

Torappu Ikka Monogatari, The Trapp Family StoryMaria Kutschera is an apprentice nun at a convent. One day, she is sent by the abbess to serve as governess at the Trapp residence, initially for only nine months. Maria is met by Austria’s national hero Baron Georg von Trapp, who is a widower, along with his seven children who have closed their hearts due to losing their mother. The second-oldest daughter among the children is named Maria too. She is a sickly child. Thanks to her inherent gentle singing voice and passionate, caring attitude, the protagonist gradually develops a bond with Maria and the other children. Before he knows, the children’s father Georg is also attracted to Maria. Seeing her kindness, Georg asks her hand in marriage. Maria is surprised at first, but later decides to accept the offer. She becomes a real member of the Trapps; the whole family forms the Family Chorus Group and is hugely suc-cessful in singing contests. However, with the break out of WW2, they move to the United States. In this new safe haven, the whole family leads a life filled with laughter and singing. The Trapp Family Story is a television anime series developed by Nippon Animation. It was the 17th installment of the World Masterpiece Theater series and first ran in 1991.The series is based on the novel The Story of the Trapp Family Singers that Austrian novelist Ma-ria von Trapp wrote based on her own life story.
