PettontonPettonton is a strange green creature from space. It can understand animal speech, fly by growing larger, and freely extend its arms.One day, Pettonton is thrown out of the spacecraft it was riding and lands on Earth. Pettonton comes across an elementary school boy named Negita Hatake and becomes the Hatakes’ pet.When they first meet, Pettonton says something strange: “I was abandoned by E.T.” Pettonton lacks common sense, which often leads to trouble. But Pettonton sometimes uses its supernatural powers and special tools to help people, gradually earning the trust of those around it. Pettonton’s challenging life with friends goes on.Pettonton is a tokusatsu series for children created by Toei, airing on the Fuji TV network from 1983 to 1984.It is based on a story developed by Shotaro Ishinomori, who is known for developing numerous tokusatsu series such as Kamen Rider and Android Kikaider. It was created as the third installment of the Toei Fushigi Comedy Series, which produced numerous sitcom-like programs. Pettonton’s surreal style where anything is possible garnered it a lot of attention and popularity. Inspired by Steven Spielberg’s E.T., which was released in 1982, Pettonton revolves around the theme of friendship between aliens and humans. Building on the popularity of Pettonton, Toei later developed numerous programs starring strange creatures for the Toei Fushigi Comedy Series.
